Wolverine becomes Captain America / Iron Man combo in his darkest future

0

During Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan storyline, an elderly Wolverine had back-to-back moments where he channeled his inner Captain America and Iron Man.

In the dark future that is the old man logan and its depressing dystopia of wasteland ruled by supervillains, Wolverine had consecutive moments where he donned the coats of Captain America and Iron Man, both of which had fallen years before. While Logan had spent years as a broken man whose hero days were over, a trip across the country with Hawkeye motivated Logan to become a hero again, especially after Hawkeye’s death. As a result, Wolverine made his return to this dark Marvel Universe in an epic fashion, fighting President Red Skull using heroic relics from the past.

While Hawkeye had always intended to kill Red Skull, Wolverine was simply there to lead the Blind Archer so he could be paid to pay his debts to the Hulk Gang. However, that all changed when Hawkeye’s contacts betrayed and killed him. While they also shot Logan, his healing factor saw him delivered to the Inner Skull Sanctuary himself, seeing how they thought he was dead. Deciding to become a hero again, Wolverine climbed out of his body bag and battled the Red Skull, surrounded by his collection of relics and weapons that belonged to the heroes of the past who were slain when the Villains banded together to take control. of the world.

As a result, Wolverine # 72 (Old man Logan) by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven saw Logan use Captain America’s shield, blocking strikes from the Red Skull that wielded the ebony blade that once belonged to the Dark Knight. However, Wolverine ends up gaining the upper hand, proving Red Skull’s belief that he wouldn’t kill him badly by brutally decapitating the skull with Steve Rogers’ shield. Additionally, Logan turns and dons an old Iron Man suit of armor as the President’s forces arrive, blowing up the Skull Headquarters before returning home when the problem is over.

Though Red Skull wears the Captain America mask as a sign of his victory over his greatest enemy, Logan has proven to be a worthy successor to Steve Rogers’ mantle by wielding his shield and putting an end to the evil of Red Skull for good. Additionally, his use of Iron Man armor also allowed Logan to honor Tony Stark’s legacy. While Wolverine left the shield behind and ditched the armor after returning home, his use of the two heroes’ iconic tools during his decisive battle with the Red Skull is still quite impressive.

While heroes are rare in this dark version of the Marvel Universe, Logan’s loss to Red Skull not only marked his own return as Wolverine, but also Captain America and Iron Man (even briefly). Either way, becoming a combo of these two fallen Avengers is a pretty entertaining return to heroism for Logan, even if Wolverine still had quite a bit of darkness ahead of him with the Hulk Gang before the the old man logan completely finished scenario.
