KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A Kansas City, Kansas man will serve less than three years in prison for killing his father.
A judge has sentenced Zachary Arnold to 32 months for the shooting death of Captain Chris Arnold. He will be placed on probation for two years after his release.
Captain Arnold was a deputy in the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office but was off duty when he was killed at his home on October 5, 2019.
According to court records, the two were involved in a type of argument that ended with the elder Arnold being fired. Autopsy reports indicate that he was shot only once.
When police arrived on the scene, court records said they found Zachary kneeling next to his father. Officers ordered him to the door and took him into custody.
The sheriff’s department said Chris Arnold was off duty at the time, but was wearing a loose uniform, consisting of a duty polo shirt, slacks and his duty belt. Court records say Arnold was likely shot with his service weapon after officers found a .40 caliber Glock handgun in the house along with a spent shell casing.
Zachary had previously been convicted by a jury of manslaughter in his father’s death.
