The first ODI will be played at Harare Sports Club on August 5.
A few hours before the start of the first ODI, Zimbabwe Cricket named a 15-member squad on Thursday to face Bangladesh in the three-game ODI series due to start on August 5. Regis Chakabva, the 34-year-old striker-wicketkeeper, has been named the side’s captain and will be in charge of the team for the next five days.
The three ODIs are scheduled to be played on August 5, 7 and 10 and all matches will be hosted by Harare Sports Club in Harare. Craig Ervine, the team’s regular captain, has been given a break to help him recover from recent physical ailments, and so Chakabva will take over as captain.
Zimbabwe’s versatile veteran Sean Williams will also miss the series as he was granted time off to deal with and deal with some personal issues. Ervine and Williams were replaced by Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Tarisai Musakanda in the 15-member squad. Players who recently helped Zimbabwe win the T20I series against Bangladesh make up the rest of the squad.
Zimbabwean players in form
Luke Jongwe and ryan burl retained their place in the team after impressive performances in the recently concluded T20I series. Zimbabwe made history beating Bangladesh for the first time in a T20I series, and they would be looking to play the same way to end the series on a high note.
Burl was one of the best performers in the series, as his 28-ball, 54-point shot in the series decider helped the team add a new feather to their cap. He went on a six-hit streak and had 34 runs in one to enter the elite list of hitters for scoring the most runs in a single T20I.
Sikandar Raza was named player of the series as he racked up 127 points over the three games, with the game-high 65* (26) in game one. The mid-ranked hitter, who is in excellent form in the white ball format, will also be looking to expand his purple spot in the ODIs.
