Marvel Comics is giving CBR an exclusive look at Captain America/Iron Man #5, from Derek Landy, Angel Unzueta, and Rachelle Rosenberg.
Marvel Comics provided CBR with an exclusive look at Captain America/Iron Man #5, by writer Derek Landy, artist Angel Unzueta, colorist Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC letterer Joe Caramagna. The preview reveals a big way Hydra Cap affected Steve Rogers’ reputation.
Captain America/Iron Man began with the return of Fifty-One, part of the 50 State Initiative, and Veronica Eden from the 2020s Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As the book progressed, Captain America and Tony Stark/Iron Man learned that Eden worked with the Paladins to stage superheroic battles. This resulted in the reactivation of the supervisor.
Overview of CBR’s Captain America/Iron Man #5 opens with Eden and Rogers fighting side by side. Meanwhile, Stark rushes to stop the Paladins, who aim to kill Fifty-One in order to cover up their crimes. At the end of the preview, the Myrmidons crash through a wall in an attempt to stop the Paladins from killing Fifty-One. However, they also intend to kill the alien.
Like other installments in Captain America/Iron Man, issue 5 features a narration from Eden. This time, Eden talks about her frustration with Captain America’s perfection. She specifically refers to the events of 2017 secret empire event, by writer Nick Spencer and artists Rod Reis, Daniel Acuña, Steve McNiven and Andrea Sorrentino. This storyline saw a version of Rogers who was part of Hydra take over the United States. Eden particularly focuses on how the real Rogers, after the end of this event, hasn’t really changed or been corrupted in any way. This leads him to think how dangerous Captain America really would be if he wasn’t so good, thus indicating that others feel the same.
While Iron Man and Captain America are both founding members of the Avengers and are usually portrayed as friends, the two heroes have found themselves at odds in the past due to their differing ideologies. The 2006/2007 Civil war event, which was written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Steve McNiven and Dexter Vines, saw the two go head-to-head when the US government attempted to pass the Superhero Registration Act. Iron Man supported the bill, while Captain America opposed it, leading to a clash between the two that resulted in the latter’s death. The events of this story formed the basis of 2016 Captain America: Civil Wara film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
