- The former Broncos captain didn’t make a point in the loss to Penrith on Good Friday
- Coach Kevin Walters could turn to Cory Peace, who impressed in pre-season
- The Broncos are 14th on the NRL ladder and on a four-game losing streak
Jake Turpin looks set to pay the price for Brisbane’s dismal form, with Kevin Walters apparently considering dropping the former Broncos captain to the bench in Round 6.
The Broncos have followed up their back-to-back wins at the start of the season with four straight losses and Walters are desperate to get back to winning ways when Brisbane host the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
According to the Courier Mail, the Broncos coach is ready to roll the dice with his team selection and could demote Turpin to the bench in favor of Cory Peace.
Former Broncos captain Jake Turpin could be fired for Brisbane clash against Bulldogs
The former Brisbane captain, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was almost completely ineffectual in the 40-12 thrashing his side suffered at the hands of Penrith on Good Friday.
The 25-year-old failed to make a single run against the reigning premiers, finishing with zero yards to his name for 43 minutes on the pitch.
The Broncos were without Payne Haas and Tom Flegler suspended and Herbie Farnworth injured against the Panthers, but the former duo should be available against the Bulldogs.
Their return could convince Walters to choose Peace over Turpin, who has struggled with collarbone and pectoral muscle issues in recent weeks.

The Broncos coach noted that Peace impressed in pre-season, before contracting Covid-19 before the start of the campaign.
‘He [Turpin] was our most consistent player last year,” Walters said.
‘[Broncos assistant coach] Matt Ballin worked with Turps on his attacking game in training.

Brisbane have now lost four games in a row after starting the season with back-to-back wins
“Cory has been very good to us in pre-season, so he’s pushing hard for an opportunity and I’m aware of that.”
Turpin was one of Brisbane’s few bright spots in a dismal season for the Broncos last year, racking up 904 tackles at an average of 41 per game.
Wooden spoons last season, Brisbane started the 2022 campaign in fine fashion with back-to-back wins over South Sydney and Canterbury.
Early season optimism, however, quickly faded after heavy losses to the Cowboys and Warriors, before a narrow loss to the Roosters preceded a bombardment against the Panthers.
