At Ultra-Unit Architectural Studio, we embrace “Design Craft” as our methodology and see ourselves as a catalyst for change in the dynamic Long Beach area. Designed because we see good design as the product of effort that shapes a problem, negotiates between actors, and works iteratively to find a great solution. Architecture as we practice it also includes active participation in construction as a means of maintaining authorship and bridging the gap between concept and construction.
We enjoy creating physical models, sketching, 3D modeling, visualization, as we consider all of these mediums to be important contributors to design within the office. We very intentionally operate as a collaborative studio, which is made possible by our small size and integrated design/build processes in which staff are able to work on a wide variety of projects and have hands-on experience interacting with clients. thanks to the coordination of the construction on the ground. Project types are varied and localized, including multi-family, retail, restoration, and adaptive reuse types.
