Giovani Lo Celso’s time at Tottenham Hotspur is almost certainly over.
La Liga and versatile Spanish football pundit Cesar Luis Merlo report that Lo Celso is returning to the Spanish Premier League in a loan deal with Villarreal. It’s not done yet, but it’s close enough to cross the finish line.
Gio Lo Celso tiene un acuerdo total con el Villarreal para jugar cedido hasta junio with an opción de compra desde Tottenham.

Villarreal will have the option to buy Lo Celso at the end of the loan spell, which runs until the end of June. Charlie Eccleshare says it’s not quite done, but he agrees with Merlo on the clubs’ situation.
Not yet finalized but confident that a loan agreement can be concluded between #THFC and Villarreal for Giovani Lo Celso for the rest of the season. Would include an option to purchase in the summer. https://t.co/i2Uvo7ICEE

We can poetically explain why it never seemed to click for Lo Celso at Spurs (injuries immediately spring to mind) or why we just learn he’s having trouble settling in, but the fact remains that Lo Celso will be in Spain by the end of the day and Spurs will have their wages cancelled, kicking the road over a permanent transfer, much like Tanguy Ndombele.
Once this is finalized, we should have all the details of the deal.
