Naeem Islam took over the captaincy from Mehidy Hasan Miraz for the game against Sylhet Sunrisers on Saturday
“We had a full season deal with Nixon, but he came back after he got an emergency call from his county. He made his observations before he left, about how the team should operate. We did the change based on that. He said that Miraz is an important player, so he should be released, that’s why we changed the captain” said Muntasir.
Franchise operations manager Yasir Alam said Shaun Tait, who worked as a bowling coach, was elevated to head coach. “Shaun Tait is now the head coach as Nixon has left for his county of Leicestershire. Nixon told us to replace Miraz with Naeem, an experienced all-rounder, as captain,” Alam said.
Miraz has taken eight wickets and scored 70 runs in his four matches as Chattogram captain this season. Chattogram won two of their first four games under Miraz, who was in his second stint as BPL captain. Previously, he managed Rajshahi Kings in the 2018-19 BPL.
Naeem, too, leads his second BPL team after captaining Rangpur Riders in the 2016 edition of the BPL. Regarding outgoing coach Nixon, Naeem said: “We had a lot of problems with our big shot. The way he helped us in that area was excellent. We could have learned a lot more from him if he was with us. Longer. .”
