The new Captain America series, Sentinel of Liberty, receives a preview from Marvel. The folks at Bleedingcool offer a first look at the upcoming Captain America relaunch. If you haven’t heard, Marvel is relaunching Captain America in May. After the release of Captain America #0, the series will split into two books. One will focus on Steve Roger’s version of the hero, while the other will put Sam Wilson behind the shield. This new preview gives a taste of what Steve Rogers is up to this year.
A New Captain America Series… What Do We Know So Far?
While the first look at Sentinel of Liberty #1 doesn’t offer much context, it offers a taste of what readers can expect. The scenes show Steve Rogers preparing in the Stars and Stripes to take on another threat to America. It also shows Rogers overseeing a 4th of July parade with his partner Bucky Barnes, aka Winter Soldier. There’s also a glimpse of a fight between Captain America and a skull-masked villain. Clearly, there is some excitement awaiting Roger’s future.
In addition to the overviews, a description of the problem is given. As previously announced, we know that this new Captain America series will reveal a secret about Cap’s shield. This secret will have important ramifications for the hero and what it means to wield it. This will apparently be a big theme for Sentinel of Liberty. The description claims that this secret “will change the way Steve Rogers sees the 20and century”. It will also change the way he fights in the present.
Who manages such a great moment in the life of Steve Roger?
Jackson Lanzing, Colin Kelly and Carmen Carnero team up to Sentinel of Liberty. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the creators explained that it will examine how Rogers and America have changed over the years. “We have seen a sea change in our country… real fury and disappointment at what [it] started to do to themselves,” he shared. However, being Captain America, neither Rogers nor Wilson can turn their backs on the changing country. They just have to learn and adapt.
Meanwhile, as they begin to change, it raises a whole new set of questions. Specifically, what does it mean to be Steve Roger, both in and out of costume? And what exactly will Steve do to align himself with this new America.
