The Patriots are keeping one of their longest player partnerships alive for another season.
Special Teams Captain Matthew Slater re-signs with the Patriots on a one-year contract, as first reported Yates Estate and Mike Reiss from ESPN. Yates later added that it is a one-year contract for 2.62 million dollars.
Slater will now play his 15th season in the National Football League, all in New England. He was first-team All-Pro twice as a special team and was second-team three times. In 2021, he was a second-team All-Pro and was also recognized for his off-court accomplishments with the league’s prestigious Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.
The Patriots’ special teams leader (351) in 2021, Slater is expected to continue to be one of the league’s elite gunners and most respected locker room leaders. If maintaining their culture is of paramount importance to Bill Belichick, then keeping Slater in the fold is a no-brainer to achieving that.
