Boy’s season 3 teaser gives audiences the best look yet at Soldier Boy, but it also hints that the show will be roasting a famous Marvel hero.
The boys just released a new trailer for its highly anticipated third season, which gave fans their best look yet at the new character, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. In the source material, the character was designed as a parody of Marvel’s Captain America, and the new teaser implies the series will lean heavily on comparisons to the star-studded hero.
Captain America’s popularity has grown significantly over the past decade since the character’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the Marvel comics, Steve Rogers enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and received enhanced physical abilities after being selected as the recipient of the Super Soldier Serum. As Captain America, he was instrumental in destroying HYDRA, a Nazi-affiliated terrorist organization, which led to the end of the war. However, on his last mission, Rogers crashed his plane in the Arctic and remained frozen in ice for decades until he was discovered and resurrected in the present day. The Soldier Boy from the comic book series is heavily inspired by elements of Captain America, but with a few key differences.
In the comics, Soldier Boy was the leader of his own team, Payback – much like Captain America’s Avengers – but hoped to join the most esteemed team, The Seven. He was also frequently overshadowed as team leader by his former teammate, the neo-Nazi Stormfront. He claimed to be a World War II veteran, although several figures have questioned the validity of his claims. It was later revealed that “Soldier Boy” was actually a coat, secretly worn by two different men before the current one and that the original had actually fought in World War II but failed miserably, resulting in the death of countless soldiers. In Season 2 of the Amazon Series, Soldier Boy was mentioned as one of the first heroes created through the use of Compound V during World War II and remained an active hero for many decades after that. .
In the Season 3 teaser, Soldier Boy appears fighting multiple soldiers, which could indicate the show may be entering some flashback scenes, illustrating his time during the war. If the show, however, stays true to the comics, these scenes could actually turn out to be propaganda footage produced by Vought International, which would make more sense as the teaser also showed additional old footage of him singing. in some kind of show. If so, it would also resemble how the US military used Captain America as a propaganda and entertainment character during the war.
The teaser also showcased a great visual resemblance between Soldier Boy and Cap. Soldier Boy’s costume is obviously inspired by Captain America’s new MCU costumes, with his helmet being nearly identical. According to Ackles, Vought’s hero will be getting a few costume makeovers in the new season. Although Soldier Boy’s costume has a different color scheme than Cap’s, it uses classic American symbols like stars and an eagle. Additionally, the character’s first promotional look for the new season resembled Captain America’s look in 2018. Avengers: Infinity War.
Besides his origin story and appearance, the other ways Soldier Boy parodies Captain America are through his nerdy personality and old-fashioned ways. As a joke about Steve Rogers’ over-the-top patriotism, the Soldier Boy comic was depicted reciting the names of each state while fighting. He also seemed quite cautious and innocent and never used foul language – something that became a running gag with Captain America in the MCU movies. However, unlike Captain America, Soldier Boy was much more cruel, willing to hurt others while being a coward. The series will apparently further delve into Soldier Boy’s outdated behavior, turning him into a fanatic, which would further connect him to the extreme ideology of Stormfront. It would also be interesting to see if the character turns out to be an even bigger villain than either Stormfront or Homelander.
As the new season approaches, fans will get to see just how much the show will lean on Captain America comparisons and how far it will take the character to deliver his poignant and satirical – and sometimes shocking – commentary. –, which has been an important feature of the series.
Season 3 of The Boys premieres June 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
