The future captain of every Super League club – Leeds Rhinos backrower, Wigan Warriors half-back and Castleford Tigers hooker

0

Every Super League club has great young talent in their squad who will drive their club forward. But who will lead your club as captain in the future?

Castleford Tigers: Cain Robb
A tough hooker willing to put in the hard work and also learning under the brilliant Paul McShane, he would learn to be a great organizing nine. He also had to pay his dues on loan, which can only build character.

Catalan Dragons: Arthur Mourgue
An exhilarating player capable of creating something out of nothing, Arthur Mourgue is the next generation of rugby league stars and France’s next great hope. Capable of playing any role in the backbone, one day soon he will settle into a key role and be in charge of leading the Catalans’ attack. Being a captain can therefore become second nature as he guides his team’s attack. His magical footwork and speed also allow him to lead by example with some incredible moments. He could also be a future captain of the France team.

Huddersfield Giants: Olly Russell
We’ve seen Olly Russell lead Huddersfield around the pitch all season. He does a magnificent job and is one of the most underrated halfbacks in the league. A natural organizer, being a skipper is often second nature to players like him. Someone who has only ever played for the Giants – save for loan moves – he will know what it means to lead the club.

Hull FC: Joe Lovodua
Hull FC could have a new captain as early as next year depending on what happens to Luke Gale. A man like Joe Lovodua who is of a good age and already so key to Hull FC could be the ideal skipper as long as he is given a more hands-on role rather than the utilitarian role he currently occupies.

Hull KR: Jez Litten
Like many in this list, Jez Litten is in the right kind of role to take on the role of captain as he features in the backbone. A relatively young player who already has extensive experience. Hull KR’s recent successes will help him become a very good skipper.

Leeds Rhino: Morgan Gannon
The biggest compliment I can give Morgan Gannon is that people don’t think of him as a youngster. He’s just a trusted member of the Leeds team who attacks hard, runs harder and doesn’t hesitate to fight. He will only improve and become one of the best strikers in the Super League. He won’t back down and that would make him an exceptional skipper.

Salford Red Devils: Brodie Croft
In his mid-twenties, Brodie Croft still has plenty of career left and will dedicate much of it to Salford given the role he has played for them in recent weeks as a star player who can also lead the rest of the squad. .

St Helens: Jack Welsby
A young man, Jack Welsby not only proved he was the key to a successful team, but he proved he had the maturity not to let this test rather define it by seeking to earn more and improve. All of these qualities would make him a great captain of St Helens and maybe even England.

Olympic Toulouse: Olly Ashall-Bott
A great player with a bright future as well as a bright present thanks to his explosive and elusive running game. As he becomes a real star, he could be the ideal player to lead the French team forward.

Wakefield Trinity: Lewis Murphy
Some think wingers don’t make good captains, but Ash Handley as vice-captain at Leeds showed that wasn’t the case and a young player like Lewis Murphy has the ability to become a top talent who could lead Wakefield for example.

Wolves of Warrington: Key Connor
Connor Wrench is a very similar player to Josh Thewlis. The pair are made up of exceptional young players who will become Super League stars and their quality and development experience will make them mainstays at Warrington for years to come. Wrench’s more central role, assuming Thewlis becomes a winger rather than a full-back, might make him a slightly better captain, but both would be good candidates.

Wigan Warriors: Harry Smith
Already a match winner in a Challenge Cup final with massive big game experience. He will only improve and experiment more over the next few years and become a great leader, especially because of his role in halftime for the Warriors.
